Overview

The Mississippi Master Irrigator program from MSU Extension is designed to provide advanced training to participants on topics including:

  • Irrigation water management practices
  • Soil health
  • Agronomics
  • Irrigation systems and equipment maintenance
  • Policy and management

The program consists of online modules (via Canvas), classroom trainings, peer-to-peer exchange among participants and instructors, and field demonstrations. The online modules and classroom trainings are conducted by MSU Extension specialists and other individuals with specialized experience in each of the topics. At the conclusion of the in-person meetings, those completing this advanced training course in sustainable irrigation techniques will receive Mississippi Master Irrigator certification.

Why This Program?

Producers need an advanced understanding of irrigation scheduling tools and technologies to effectively implement conservation irrigation water management practices on farm. The goal of this program is to equip producers with the knowledge they need to make the right irrigation water management decisions that improve water use efficiency and on-farm profitability.

We are delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the second edition of the Mississippi Master Irrigator program. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the participants and sponsors who made this second year a resounding success. Your dedication and support have been invaluable in laying the foundation for promoting sustainable irrigation practices in Mississippi. We are proud to share that more than 50 participants of the 2024-2025 program received their Mississippi Master Irrigator certification, a testament to their commitment to excellence in irrigation management.

We are excited to share also that the NRCS Irrigation Short Course has successfully concluded! Participants completed online modules and attended a one-day, in-person training session on October 17, 2024, at Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS. At the end of the event, 37 NRCS professionals earned their completion certification, marking a significant step toward advancing irrigation management proficiency within the agency.
